Hi I am looking for some help in interpreting my son's MRI results. He is 13m old and was born at 34w due to a multiple birth. He has gross motor delays and has been doing great in physical therapy, but they suggested a neurology consult just to be sure. The neurologist thought he might have mild cerebral palsy, but his MRI does not seem to indicate that. The report states:
Findings: Prominence of the subarachnoid space. The ventricles are prominent. The gray-white matter junction is within normal limits.
Impression: External hydrocephalus. This may be idiopathic.
Unfortunately, we were not able to get a follow up appt with the neurologist for 5 weeks, so I would like some input into this before if possible.
From what I have read online, in most cases external hydrocephalus resolves itself in a few months to years. I am confused on what it means by "the ventricles are prominent" as it said in external hydrocephalus that the ventricles are normal. I am not sure how abnormal "prominent" means.
Thank you for any input!
