I was just diagnosed with PCOS on Thursday (2 days ago). My doctor put me on metformin which is supposed to help with insulin levels and decrease my chances of developing diabetes. She also said it may help with giving me a regular period and to lose weight easier. I got my period at 12 years old but it was never regular until I went on the BC pill. Now my doctor just took me off the BC pill in September and I haven't had a period since. She told me if I don't have one by January she's going to run a bunch more tests to see if I ovulate. If I do, but I'm just not bleeding, then she'll give me a progeterone pill to take for a week and then stop. That will automatically make me bleed. She said the blood could be building up inside and not cleaning out which isn't good.

Has anyone else ever had this?

PCOS is actually pretty common and occurs in about one of every ten or fifteen women. You can find some great resources but looking on the National Libraries of Medicine site: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ovarian cysts.html

I find this page very helpful, too: http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/pcosinfo. html
