Q: PCOS show on sonar?

I'm becoming quite a regular, but my brain's got so many questions and it won't leave me alone 'till it's answered. I went to my gyn/ob in January because after the birth of my baby in August last year I still didn't have my period back. He said it's probably stress, etc, etc. He did a vaginal sonar and said that everything looked fine, just that my womb is lying backwards. Now I want to know - if I had PCOS would it have shown on the sonar? Everywhere I read about infertility I read about PCOS and I've noticed some of the symptoms like the hair growth and (since August) irregular menses. When would be the best time in a cycle to go the the doctor and have tests done?

From what I know, if you had cysts, that would show. But, it's important to know that you can have PCOS without any ovarian cysts. It's a hormonal condition, not just cysts. Since you probably have an irregular cycle, it's best for you to think of all the symptoms you've been experiencing, keep track of your cycle, any other conditions you have, and then bring it all to your doctor. (anytime) Your doctor will diagnose you by the symptoms you describe and perhaps some hormone tests.
