Hello,

I have been dealing with PCOS for the past two years when I was diagnosed with it by my gyn. First, I was on the pill for the two years but just last month I changed to NuvaRing because of vomiting and nausea. On the NuvaRing, I haven't had any of the nausea and stuff.

However, yesterday I had immense pain in my abdomen. It was to the point I couldn't get up and I had to have my boyfriend help me. As soon as I moved, I went into tears because of the sharp pain in my abdomen and each step I took, it hurt. But after a couple of minutes it went away.

Today, I had a couple more sharp pains but not as bad. And I have this sort of odor coming from my private area. It's not musty or fishy smelling but it is different then what is usual for me.

I was wondering if maybe it was a cyst rupturing, as I haven't had any yet. I have basically 5 years of no menstruation after starting and I know I have many cysts on my ovaries. I am going to call my gyn and get an earlier appointment since I have one next month for my annual.

As stated, is this pain one of my cysts rupturing or something else?

Thanks

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
If the intensity of pain is severe, you should consider visiting the ER to have an ultrasound scan done along with an examination to rule out rupture of ovarian cyst and any other underlying problem. Visit your gynecologist for an urgent appointment as early as possible (if pain is tolerable, and you are not having temperature rise or worsening of symptoms). The altered vaginal smell could also suggest possibility of severe PID or pelvic inflammation due to ruptured cyst. Do not delay in taking medical attention.
Take care.
