Q: Pathology of a skin infection
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 11th, 2008
I have been experiencing pain on and around the head of my penis for almost 6 months. The skin on the head looks very. It hurts when walking or moving too much. I went to a doctor a month and a half after the pain started. He pointed out some bumps which he said might be worts and said that the pain should go away. The pain didn't stop so I went to a dermatologist. He said that the bumps were not warts, but were pearly penile papules and that I should use eucerin lotion for the pain. I have been using the lotion for a month and the pain is less but still there. Could this be an infection?

Current medical status: Pain on, around and just beneath the head of my penis.
Current medical treatment: I have been using eucerin lotion.

An infection on both skin and mucous membrane appears as more or less red, swollen tissue. The edema can range from mere red spots that are not above the surface to papule (above the surface) and blisters with pus inside. The last are a definite sign of infection, but the former can also indicate an infection but in earlier stages. You might want to ask a second opinion from a dermatologist about the condition and about taking antibiotics.
