This is interesting, Homer. While I have had some belief in past lives, I don't know what I am currently believing.

I do feel we choose our paths before we are born to learn lessons we need to learn.

I don't believe in strict "past lives". However, I believe our souls (our spiritual energy) go back to God (aka, the world around us) when we die; that's heaven. Hell is not getting to go back. However, since I believe all souls are just temporary pieces attached to a general whole, Hell really isn't a permanent thing. Since little pieces of this grand soul are always slipping down into new babies, in that sense, we are all one connected soul. We ALL have the same "past life" because it's one big bowl.

yes-- i believe we (our souls/spirits) have been here before and will probably be back again in some form. i have had dreams like the ones on oprah have described (but they were under hypnosis). If u ever have had this kind of experience u know what i mean.

But since I don't believe in individual souls (we're all connected to the grand soul by a string if you will) I don't believe you can have, say, Ghengis Khan's "soul" inside of you, because when he died, his soul dissolved and added its experiences t the whole. You have a part of it. You have a part of every single life that has ever been on this planet.

How does it explain the love and violence? I don't really think we have any solid universal consciousness; what I probably should have said is that the "souls" we have in us have no conscious memory of past experiences.

To me, it's like saying we drink dinosaur pee. We technically do; the water cycle works that way. However, you can clearly grasp the idea that we're not actually drinking urine. That's what the universal soul is like. There's nothing tangible to "feel" as you are now.
