I'm 47 and had been having continual heavy periods so my doc put me on a hormone (Norithisterone) to stop the bleeding and severe pelvic pain I was experiencing. I had a scan and it showed very minor fibroid growth, nothing else. My Doc then suggested getting a Mirena coil fitted to manage my periods. I got it fitted a week ago and have just come off the Norithisterone. Yesterday I started to have period cramping and started bleeding, by the evening the pain was so bad that neither diclofenic or cocodomol (taken together) were working. I Finally managed to sleep with a hot water bottle on my stomach. Seriously had the pain got any worse I would have gone to A&E. I got up this morning and the pain had all but gone. I then went to have a pee and felt something come away from my body. (Sorry for this bit..) On closer inspection I saw I had passed a really large fibrous mass of endometrial tissue, not a just a lump but it seemed like I'd passed the whole lining of my uterus; Ewww!! Now I realise why I was in agony, that thing had to get past the Mirena. I don't understand why this has occured and wonder if it's happened to anyone else. Im still bleeding which I understand is normal when you first get a Mirena fitted, but at least now I'm not in agony.. Thanks for reading this and your comments would be really welcome.
