Q: Parotid glands and enlarged lymph nodes
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 27th, 2009
2 wks ago while eating popcorn a hard lump appeared just below my ear on the jawbone. There was also dull pain. The lump receded and it stopped hurting, but each time I eat it reappears - sometimes it's bigger than at other times. When it started it was as big as my thumb, now it's the size of my little finger.

Might be related to your parotid gland (the largest salivary gland), or this mass could be an enlarged lymph node in the same area. (It is, of course, impossible to make a diagnosis over the Internet.)

I suggest that you have your primary physician refer you to an ENT phsyician for further evaluation.

Sincerely,
