Hi all,
I know this is kind of a rare topic however I would like to ask a question anyway. I have been told recently that my parathyroid hormone (PTH) is too high (Canadian value 8Cool which indicates a problem with my blood calcium. Through further blood tests, my blood calcium level is normal, and my vitamin D is flagged severely deficient. My urine calcium level is flag low, and my total cholesterol is also flagged low. All this I am assuming is an absorption problem. From reading on the internet I have curious as to what is going on with me. Has anyone one else here had a problem with their parathyroid?
If so what should I expect from my doctors, what are the appropriate test to get done.
So far the doctor has ordered,
Bone Density Scan
Mammogram
24 hour urine
Celiacs test (came back negative)

Any insight on this problem will be appreciated.

After trying 3 different endocrinologists over the past 8 years from Tucson, AZ to Duke University, I was reluctantly diagnosed with having hyperparathyroid disease in February 2009. I just had surgery and they found a tumor 10X normal size. I have had severe osteoporosis, plus most of the typical symptoms and have tried to tell the endocrinologists that I thought it was my parathyroid. They all repeateds the same calcium and pth tests and kept saying the numbers weren't high enough. .
