I currently have a scabbed over cold sore on my lip. I was removing Monistat from the packaging and inserted it for the treatment of a yeast infection. I'm concerned that because I was breathing with my mouth open while handling it, small saliva droplets could have gotten on it before I inserted it. Is this paranoia? I feel as if you can never really be too careful. I also just generally feel very paranoid about handling tampons as well while I have a cold sore for the same reason. Surely it's fairly unlikely that you would contract genital herpes this way though?

Unless you touch your cold sore with your hand or the tampon, and then touch your genitals with either, you don't have to worry about spreading it. I would simply try not to touch the cold sore at all. If/when I touched it I would make sure that I washed my hands immediately afterward.
