i just need to know if it's possible for a pap smear to be wrong? Last year i had a pap and everything was negative except for i had a vaginal infection.I recently went to urgent care because i was having lower back pain and my period was late and still is until this day.But the dr diagnosed me with PID and said its caused by either chlamydia or gonorrhea so she did the cultures and still hasn't called me back yet on my results.Could the cultures from last year get confused with my vaginal infection i had?Or should it been able to detect if i had either STD?Any input would help thank you

To my knowledge, unless you specifically request that your doctor test for STDs, the pap smear only detects abnormal, precancerous, or cancerous cervical cells. It has nothing to do with STD screening. Did you ask for STD testing last year or did your doctor tell you that he/ she would be testing for them?

I asked for std screen last year he did a swab for chlamydia and one for gonerrhea because I told him I've never had a pap so he asked me if I wanted to do all the screenings and that he would call me if anything would come up in my results.he called me and said that I only had a vaginal infection and he gave me a 7 day treatment to insert in my vagina every night.

Have you been celibate since your last pap smear? If you had recently contracted an STD at the time of the first examination, it is possible that it was too soon to detect the STD.
