I am 23 years old and a healthy, sexually active (only with my boyfriend of the last year and three months now) female. Since I was 18, I've experienced something that doctors call panic attacks. I don't believe that is what they are though. They occur when I'm sitting down doing nothing, when I'm sleeping, when I'm having good conversations, when I'm having a good time, and have not ONCE occurred during a stressful situation. Therefore, I'm kind of at a crossroads and I'm hoping SOMEONE out there has this same problem, but has a solution too. It's extremely frustrating and painful when it is happening. Here are my symptoms: I start to feel my heart race. I begin to get very hot, sometimes sweating. Then I get a pain in my ribs on the front side and on the back side. It literally feels like I'm being crushed. It feels like someone is pushing on the front of me and the back of me at the same time. I can breathe, but it hurts so bad that I don't even want to breathe because it gets worse with every breath. Any little movement at this point, makes it worse. I have to sit, with my back against something solid, and breathe slowly in through my mouth, out through my mouth. Trying anything else makes it worse. If people try to console me and just touch my shoulder or even just move my hair out of my face, the pain intensifies. Having cold air blowing on me seems to help a little. Eventually, after breathing slow, the pain lessens and then stops and I get really cold, clammy, and shaky. When I begin to get better, I start to burp every few minutes. Sometimes these "episodes" last for 5 minutes and sometimes they last for 30. I always feel like I'm going to pass out. I get really lightheaded. I never lose my sight or my hearing though so I know I'm not THAT close to passing out. It is the most painful thing I've ever gone through and I never know when its going to happen. Sometimes I'll go 6 months without having one then I'll have one and have one a week after that. Sometimes it'll happen every few months. I just want answers.
I have worn a heart monitor for 2 weeks before and they say that my heart is fine. I did have one "episode" while I was wearing it, but they never said if my heart rate changed, but I feel that it did. My heart feels like it's beating so fast that I can hear it in my ears and feel it in my throat and it makes me lightheaded. I have also had an EKG done twice and nothing was abnormal about either one of those. I'm just really hoping someone out there has had something similar and knows what it going on and how to fix it. Please help me! Thank you!
