Panic attacks during sleep ? Posted: 05-15-08 03:00am
Hi, I'm a 19 year old college student and
so far in my second year I've been doing
fine with all the pressure, surprisingly
so since I'm in a very vigorous premed
program. In the past few weeks, however,
I've woken up almost every night before I
have an exam. I wake up cold and sweating,
short of breath, and very nauseous. I
usually just take a Zofran for the nausea,
drink a glass of water, and try to go back
to bed.
I've never had a panic attack while I'm
awake. Is it possible to have one while
I'm asleep? What should I do to prevent
them from happening?
Thanks much.

This is very usual with panic attacks. You
have to remember, at night you are
supposed do have a clear comfortable mind
to sleep well. If you are leaning toward
night attacks, that would mean possibilly
you are having running thoughts that you
are to busy during the day to think about.
At night your mind is racing with all the
thoughts of whatever it is that is dreaded
during the day when you are busy. This is
a very common demoninator in panic
attacks. And all the other symtoms you
have mentioned can well accompany it.
Stay well and try and relax. Try a little
meditation yoga if you can. It really
works. Dimmed room with a candle or two.
Try it!

I know the feeling. I here recently have
been waking up in the early morning due to
a panic attack. I don't know if it is due
to stress or not, all I know is that the
next day I am exhausted sue to lack of
sleep.

Thanks, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I'll definitely try some yoga and
meditation. I took a class called
"techniques of relaxation", maybe it's
time to use what I learned lol.

Perfect idea. You are headed on the right
track. Lavender is a relaxation theorpy
also. There are a couple of products out
that you can spray on ourself. I never
miss a spray before I cross those legs of
mine.
