Q: Panic attacks and hearing voices
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 20th, 2009
I am writing this on behalf of my friend:
She is 14 and sufferring from what i believe to be SZ. Frequently at night, and im sure during the day, she is "contacted" by these scientists (she calls them) via telepathy. She tells me that they do tests on her for telepathy and that they send wolves to make sure she does not tell anybody or something along those lines....the other day she said that they sent 2 demons that do not come frequently, one male and one female...she drew pictures (she is an artist) and they looked like succubus'. Also these scientists tell her to harm herself (cutting) and i have seen the wounds...most recent was about 8 cuts, maybe 3 inches long on the wrists, following the veins. She also has panic attacks, im not sure what about though. She goes to a therapist, but i do not think this is enough, im not sure if the therapist knows enough of her situation. I am posting this because i am scared for her. She follows these scientists commands like a puppet.
Thank you

I understand that you are concerned for your friend's mental health. Based on your description of your friend's reporting of voices talking to her and telling her to harm herself, it is possible she is suffering from schizophrenia or another type of mental illness with psychotic features. You may want to try to convince your friend to see a psychiatrist or her regular doctor because you are concerned about her health. You may want to see if she will go to the emergency room if she cuts herself again so they can re-evaluate her.
