painfull bumps on each side of my jaw next the ear...what?

why am i going through this? i woke up about a week ago and i had a bit of swelling on the left side of jaw next to the ear and i thought nothing of it. then it went away and i woke again a day or two later and sure enough it came back on the right side even bigger and more painfull than before. now its affecting my hearing a bit and its very GD annoying. some guy i met said its most likely TMJ but i dont have insurance or any means to take care of this problem if its actually a serious thing. so what can i do about it.
