Q: Painful sexual intercourse
asked by: DoctorQuestion on July 23rd, 2008
I am a 21 year old female and I have been experiencing an intense burning sensation during vaginal intercourse. This has been happening to me for a little over a year. When I first start to engage in sexual intercourse there isn't any pain, but after a couple of minutes the pain becomes so unbearable that I have to stop. I don't have pain at any other time, only during intercourse. I recently took a home vaginal pH test and it came back normal. Do you have any suggestions as to what it could be?

Sexual Health - Women Answer A4445
Current medical treatment: Junel Fe birth control, adderall 10 mg and adderall XR 30 mg

Various organic disorders of the genitals can cause painful sex. You have to visit a gynecologist for a vaginal examination to see if there is a disorder. A pH-test of the vagina can give us information about the presence of an infection. Infections can cause painful sex but there are other reasons that can also cause painful sex: dry vagina, extremely large penis, tumors, vaginal scars, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, estrogen deficiency, anatomic conditions, such as hymenal remnants, etc.

You may want to consult your gynecologist about this.
