Q: painful knot on head

does anyone have any idea what my 16 yr old daughter may have going on?
She has been complaining of a knot (about the size of a pea and hard) on the back of her neck near her L ear in her hair line. It does not hurt under it only hurts on top and right on the sides. I can not see anything.
not red
not swollen
not hot to the touch
no injury
states has been hurting 2 weeks.

Was this preceded with ear infection or scalp infected lesion?
