For several years now, I have had what appears to be a bony growth on the back of my heels, more prominent on the right one. If I bang my heel even slightly on a chair, the pain is incredible. It appears to be getting larger; I would estimate it is the size of half a golf ball. Obviously wearing out the insides of my shoes; only certain shoes can be worn without pain, and I have some serious stiffness and pain if I've been off of the foot for a period of time.

What is it, and what are my options?
