My 3 year old son has started to hold his left arm and complain it was sore, 12 hours later and he refuses to use the are at all. He is constantly crying that he cant walk and the next day developed a horrible rash down the arm and at the top of his back/neck on the left side as well. The hospital done an x-ray and had 5 doctors look at him and no one has any idea. He is lethargic and off his food. Please help as he seems to be getting worse and no one knows why. His rash is like little tiny blisters.

Your 3yo certainly has concerning symptoms. I hope that amongst the doctors that he has seen are included a pediatric infectious disease specialist. In my experience, onset of pain and lack of use of an arm is frequently caused by a “nursemaids elbow” (a dislocation of the radial head in the elbow joint). This however is never associated with the rash you are describing. This painful rash of tiny blisters that you describe may be ‘‘shingles” or Herpes Zoster. This is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. Rarely this can occur in young children.
