Q: Pain under scapula
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 10th, 2008
I'm a 26 year old woman with RA. My back along the right side underneath the scapula started hurting around Jan of this year with no known cause (such as trauma). I waited for it to heal and it didn't. So in June of this year I went to an orthoepdic back dr. and he said it was most likely a pinched nerve. I went to physical therapy for 3 months with little improvement. Last month it spread around under my armpit and into my upper ab area on the right side. I have pain in the upper abs right along the rib cage. I had a Hida scan and ultra sound to check out my gallbladder. That was all negative. I just had an mri of the thoracic spine and they said it didn't show any pinching but they weren't sure. Is there anything else this could be besides a pinched nerve? It's really hurting and hard to deal with for so long. Thank you for your opinion

Back Pain Answer A5288
YOU WROTE: "Current medical status: MRI inconclusive, physical therapy didn't help, hida scan neg. ultrasounds neg"

Unfortunately, II need more information in order to help answer your question:

1. How would you describe the pain?
2. What time of the day do you feel your worst? When is it the best?
3. Are there any specific motions that make it feel worse? Any that make it feel better? (like lying on your back)
