Q: Pain meds without esophageal spasms ?

Hi,
I have a big problem that nobody seems to be able to help me with. I have had esophageal spasms for decades. I take nitro (thank God for Nitro) and pepcid and I can live with it. The problem is that if I were to need pain medication for any reason it would trigger a spasm. I went through an old fashion Cholecystectomy, hysterectomy, knee surgery and more procedures without a pain medication that would work because of esophageal spasms. I was tortured. I don\'t want to go through that again.
My question is how can I be medicated for pain without immediately triggering esophageal spasms. I have Arthritis in both feet and a deviated septum. I just tell the doctors that I can\'t have surgery because I can\'t use any pain medication.
Please help,
Thank you,
Laura

Is it the process of swallowing a pill that causes your spasms?

If so, there are pain patches that can be placed on your skin.

Ask for liquid pain meds..I have severe dryness due to sjorgens and meds get stuck..Pain pills that get stuck tend to burn a hole in you..If the med is not as small as a pea then it is ligud for me..Tastes nasty but gets the job done..

I drink hot tea or take honey before hand with other meds and that helps my throat to relax..I have also been known to warm towels and place around my throat to help relax it..
