I've had a problem with pain just under my left rib cage for about a year. It only bothers me when I stand for long periods of time. Like standing in line at stores, trick-or-treating, etc. It's really bothering me. I go to the doctor for the 1st time for this tomorrow. Any ideas?

Hi,
Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am glad to help you out. I think you should consult a physician and get yourself evaluated further to look for the cause of the chest/rib cage pain.

You might need tests like an x-ray of the chest or ECG. The pain could be musculoskeletal in origin or it could be due to the inflammation of the pleura (pleuritis). Further tests, like a CT scan of the chest might be required depending on the reports of the basic tests.

If you have any history of injury to the chest, then rib fracture can also be the cause. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
