Started a couple days ago. I woke up and it was difficult to get out of bed. Localized pain in the small of my back, no pain anywhere else. 33 years old, slightly overweight, 6'5". I don't do any kind of heavy lifting. I don't exercise.

Standing or sitting I feel nothing. I only feel it getting in and out of a chair, getting in and out of bed, or bending over if my legs are not bent. I have to do it very slowly and grab on to something to help hoist myself. When walking, I sometimes feel it slightly.

I wonder if this is just back strain that will go away in a few days or if I might have a herniated disc.

Thank you very much for your thoughts, I appreciate it!

Ethan

hi ethan...have you seen a dr yet. a dr will check your reflexes and muscle strength to see if there are any symptoms that the spinal nerves are being compressed by either a bad disc or arthritic bony material. based on your description it sounds like dr will recommend physical therapy.
i would recommend a physiatrist who is fairly knowledgeable about the spine.
in the mean time try to do some walking. and like me a little weight loss might help...keep us informed of your progress....pete
