Hi, i'm 18 years old, and for the past week or so, i've been having pain and sensitivity in my ribs all down my right side and into my lower back. All of it is on my right side, including the pain in my ribs. It starts right next to my right breast, and even into it slightly. It follows my rib cage all the way down, and then leads into the right half of my lower back. I haven't noticed any fever, but i have been chilled. i feel pain when i out streatch my arm, bend over, turn around, or reach for something. It hurts most when it is touched. When touched, it feels almost like a knife is being jabbed into that particular area. There is no swelling, redness, bruising or any visible symptoms. I don't feel as though it is my kidneys because i haven't been having any changes in urination. I've been exhausted and restless for the last few nights, probably because of finals, but that's another story. I haven't been sleeping too much. Oh, i have been experiencing diarrhea once or twice a day, but i feel that may be from the large amounts of caffeine i've been consuming lately. Also, i've got a rash in the center of my lower back right on my spine. it's about two inches in diameter, it doesn't itch, hurt, anything, it's just simply there. But its not in the area where i'm experiencing pain. I have been naseous lately as well, probably because i'm so fatigued and haven't been eating very well these past few days due to finals. I'm not sure if its necessary to mention that i'm a vegetarian or not. The last time i went to the doctor was about a month ago for a check up, all my blood work came back completely normal, so being a vegetarian should have nothing to do with it. Please, if you have any ideas, let me know. I don't want to go to the doctor if there's nothing truly wrong with me. Thank you.

Have you had an injury to that area? Does it hurt worse when you cough, sneeze or breathe deeply? It sounds like peurisy, some people call it side pleurisy because it often affects only one side of the chest. It can also be caused by an infection of the lower respiratory system.

No, i have not had an injury, nor have a done anything out of the ordinary to strain the muscles. I've also started to notice that occasionally i will have a sharp pain in my lower right abdomen as well. It feels cold. Like when you hold an ice pack or something frozen for too long. i don't get a cold feeling, it's just like the piercing pain from touching something cold for too long.

I don't know if it's relevant, but about two weeks ago, i would have pain when eating. I'd swallow, and about three seconds, a sharp pain would run all through my torso, especially right under my ribs. both the left, and the right side. It went away after about a week though.

No it doesn't sound anything like stress at all.

You need to see your doctor right away. Could be many things, but some of your symptoms sound like infection of some kind that needs immediate treatment.

Go to a doctor ASAP
