Q: Pain in bowel movements since giving birth

I gave birth in March 2009. After I had healed from the stitches, I began having pain during bowel movements. I went to my doctor and she suggested more water and fruits and it should get better and eventually not be a problem anymore. Also, she checked for hemorrhoids and said I didn't have any. I was also having a problem during intercourse with my husband. It would hurt so bad, I felt like the skin was tearing again.
Over time the intercourse situation got better, but I still have pain during bowel movements. Even when they're extremely soft. It feels like it's tearing...Could the skin be pulled too tightly from the stitches?? Could I have healed back abnormally? What's going on?
