asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 3rd, 2008
There is pain in my lower right back.Could this be from the kidney stone moving around? Or is it muscle pain from cleaning the house? How can I know when to contact the doctor, as he told me to do, when the stone starts causing problems?
THank you

Pain in the back can be caused both by kidney stones and overuse of the back muscles.
The pain in both cases might be stabbing, but the pain that originates from moving kidney stones is far more severe. Actually it is one of the strongest pains originating from the body that a man can experience . When the kidney stones start moving the person might have a feeling that the pain spreads to the genital area, as well. A hematuria (presence of red blood cells in the urine) can be present, making the urine turn red.
