Q: Pain from abdomen to back
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 29th, 2009
Over the last two years, I would periodically get discomfort from my left side of abdomen(under the edge of ribs, wing!?), the discomfort extands to my back. There is no pain if I apply pressure to the front but there is from the back. I would also experience continuous belching, like i would belch once every 5 seconds non-stop, the belching would stop if I lie down. Sometimes when the situation gets more serious, the whole body will feel unenergetic, and I can some times feel muscle aches across the body, and muscles near the area sometimes shakes/pulses. Sometimes constipation and diarrhea will also occur.

The discomfort will last for weeks before it disappears, and then come back again after another few weeks.

Abdominal Pain Answer A7402
Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Your symptoms (pain in upper left abdomen, belching that stops on lying down, constipation/diarrhea, shaking) could be due to conditions related to stomach such as gastric reflux or GERD, hiatal hernia, where a portion of stomach herniates into the chest cavity through the diaphragm or due to severe acidity.
Belching just indicates an irritation to the diaphragm and is often seen in hiatal hernia. However a confirmed diagnosis cannot be made on net. You should consult a gastroenterologist regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care!
