For the last month and half I've been experiencing a pain in the top to mid part of my left butt cheek. It hurts when I'm laying on it or when I sit down. It hurts most when I try to stand up or when i bend over to pick something up. I don't know why its been happening and the crazy part about it is I'm only 16! At first I didnt take the pain seriously but now its getting out of hand.when i sleep i cant even lay on my left side or anything. It feels like I am gettin stabbed in my leg. Does anyone have an idea of whats happening to me?? Sad

herniated disc
You have the symptoms of a herniated disc, you should see a physician or a good chiropractor (the chiropractor by a referral only).

Avoid flexion, sitting, or setups.

Arching your back should reduce you pain as well

It does sound like a herniated disc on a nerve. How long have you been experiencing this pain? A lot of times, this sort of thing heals on its own - especially at your age. If it does not, try a (1 week steroid pack). This should help eliminate the pain. Until then, Ibuprofen is a great anti-inflammatory pain killer.

Get an MRI and see a neurosurgeon. I had the same thing and found out that I had 3 massively ruptured discs in my lower back and 2 in my neck. I have had 2 surgeries that I regret. See what the MRI says and get a few opinions and decide yourself what you want and need. Maybe pain management, maybe surgery...but be careful with these surgeons. Make sure you research them THOROUGHLY!!! PLEASE!!

Very good advice! I had a herniated disc and put the surgery off for approximately a year while suffering severely with back pain and not able to sleep. The first doctor I took the MRI results to, told me that I would be off work for 6 weeks, be in a back brace, couldn't drive for 6 weeks, and would have a 6 inch incision with bandages that would need to be changed 3 times daily and to expect a 2 day hospital stay. I was horrified! Thank goodness I went for a second opinion. I had a lumbar discectomy (L4) done as an OUTPATIENT, 3 inch incision - bandage for 24 hours - then told to remove - no pain killers, and best of all, no more pain and I returned to work after 2 weeks. As I said in my earlier post, at your age, I think this will subside. My daughter (21 years of age) has lower back pain as I do and hers seems to always subside with the help of ibuprofen.
