Q: Pain around hysterectomy scar
asked by: pmrc98 on January 9th, 2009

I had a partial hysterectomy 3 months ago. At this time I can feel my nerve endings staring to come back around the scar area, but I just starting getting a continual pain on my right side between my scar and my belly button. I do not believe I pulled anything. Can it be nerve endings in my muscles coming back? I still have my ovaries, but I did have a tubal ligation 13 years ago. Would that affect anything. Up to this point I have felt great. I do not go to the gym or carry anything too heavy. Please help. I have had this pain for a week and not sure whether I should talk to my doctor or not.

It really takes a while for everything to settle down after surgery...I know I called a nurse friend of mine after 4 months, as it felt like everything was out of place and I was worried...She told me to expect this as she had this done herself...She advised me that seeing I had my ovaries removed that this would have an affect on my healing...I think it took close to a year for me to feel 100% complete...

I would call your doctor if you continue to be concerned, but this is a pretty invasive surgery...

Take care,
Caroline

Thank you so much for responding. You actually made me feel much better emotionally. I thought I was going crazy. At 6 weeks post surgery I got the go ahead to return to my normal routine and I felt great from that point on up till a few weeks ago. I even went to my Internist who could not find anything wrong. He checked my urine and did not feel anything with my appendix or gall bladder. The pain is slightly better the past few days so maybe I will wait and see. My next appointment is in April with my gynecologist. Thank you again for your help in this matter.

You are very welcome...The thing that doctors do not know is how we each will heal...Each woman heals in a different manner.....What does not bother one woman, may hurt the next...I was one that hurt, as I had many stitches...Yet I understand what they say..They can only judge from what they know from talking with patients.....They are right, but each person is different...That is why a Forum such as this is such a Godsend for women like us...This is where we can discuss what we have each gone through...The neat part is that we can each feel normal as we ask for help....

Now have a good day and I am here anytime you have a question...

Regards,
Caroline
