can anyone tell me which do i use. Do I use Ice or heat .I have muscle spasm and the feeling of a pinced sciatic nerve down right leg. but pain all the way from shoulder to ankle. Had broken bones in right collar two years ago and that pain doesn't go away. This, however, is new probably because I lifted something heavy.

It sounds like what you're describing is soft tissue injures due to unbalance body, which can become worse over time. It is a common misconception that back pain always stems from the pressure of a slipped disc or a trapped nerve. This is misleading, the main cause of pain is inflammation stimulating nerves, causing the pain signal.Given the severity of your pain and the functional limitations it's now placing on you, it probably is time to consult with a physician. You can start with your primary care physician, who can help you determine your next step or who you need to see. I would agree that physical therapy, intensive acupuncture, and mobilization exercises can be helpful,Good luck!

I agree with Zak-han, you should consult with your physician.
And meanwhile I would recommend using an Acupressure mat to relax your muscle spasms and free yourself from pain and stiffness.

You need to see your primary care physician to determine what is going on with your pain and whether you need further evaluation with a specialist in spines.

The fact that you had a broken collar bone a few years ago and still suffer from pain from that and now this new injury that feels like it is affecting the sciatic nerve going down your leg, says you need medical attention to determine what is actually going on.

Ice is used for the first 24 to 48 hours after an injury and then it is heat.

Other than using those 2 things, you should not be doing anything more but seeing a physician.

Trying anything else on your own, including exercises, intensive acupuncture or an acupressure mat is not appropriate, without knowing exactly what is going on and is wrong.

Doing the wrong thing will increase pain, and possibly further injure your body.

It is never advisable to self treat beyond the very basics. It' is most important to seek medical attention first and medical attention from the appropriate doctors with and MD after their name.

Hello Greenfrogs,

You have received EXCELLENT words of advice and wisdom from Fran.

PLEASE dto see a doctor.

Self treating is NOT advisable. As Fran said you can do more damage than good. A member of our church unfortunately just proved that.
