Hi, I am 22 years old and I have had a medium sized bump on the back of my neck on the right side underneath the skin (right near the middle of the back of neck, but up high)for maybe 4 or 5 years now and my neck has always caused me discomfort, but usually only after sitting at a computer desk for a period of time or after doing a lot of reading or watching T.V. But for the last month or so I have been able to feel the discomfort all the time, and I have been experiencing a lot of sharp pains through the right side of my neck and up into my head as well. I also get sharp pains in the right side of my forehead sometimes and in my temple. My right ear has even started to ache for a few minutes at times. The discomfort is now pretty much everywhere on the right side of my head, and I can feel the strain in the back of my neck 24/7. Can anyone tell me what this might be? Could it be from stress or even eye strain maybe? I used to have to wear glasses for reading and watching t.v and stuff to prevent my headaches, but I lost them years ago and never got a new pair of glasses. But I don't see how that would be affecting the back of my neck mostly, and the pain usually stems from that area. I have been really worried about the increased discomfort and shooting pains, etc, and I am living in a tiny town with no family doctor, only a medical center. Do you think this is something really serious?

Thanks, any help would be much appreciated!

Not anytime recently, no, but just over the last week or two, it has felt like I'm fighting one off...nose is stuffy and throat a little flemmy and sore at times. Last night I was feeling really congested too and this morning, but it hasn't progressed into an full out cold at all.

I have been under a lot of stress the last couple of months, however, as we just moved thousands of miles away from my home city and all my family and friends to a tiny little town where my fiancee got a job and It has been taking a lot of getting used to out here. Maybe that could be why there seems to be constant discomfort and a lot more sharp pains than there used to be?

I was also wondering if anyone knows if serious eye strain could effect the back of the neck on one side so much. I am supposed to wear glasses when I read, write, go on the computer, or watch t.v. but I just stopped wearing them years and years ago, and my eyes do bother me a lot and I do spend probably more than half my day doing those things combined and I have some pressure behind my right eye sometimes and some pain behind and around it as well. Any ideas as to whether this could be affecting the back of my neck so much?

read the posts on ear virus...sounds like what i've had for the last 4 months...it started in the back/side of my neck...supposedly it just goes away slowly on it's own but while you have it, it sucks to deal with!

What are all your symptoms? Cause I'm not dizzy or anything and there hasn't been much aching in my ear for the last couple days now, there was just a bit before that. But I did notice the other day that my lymph nodes in my throat, neck, shoulders and arms seemed to be swollen and sore, and I've been very stuffy and congested with a sore throat the past week or so.

Only three days ago i have begun to have a strange twinge in the back of my head/neck, and over this short period of time, it has become increasingly uncomfortable, and i also have a lump om the right side of my neck.
Its really worrying me!
I have also had a bit of a sore throat over the past day or so, but its nothing compared to the ache in the back of my head.

Anyone know what it could be?

So, I was sitting here on the computer last night and my neck was pretty sore (I had been on for about 3 hours though) and as always the right side of my neck was pretty sore, but then the left side of my neck and up to my ear started kinda hurting a bit too. It actually felt like it was kinda swollen back there too. Are there lymph nodes at the back of the neck like right under the hairline, because that is where the main annoyance and pain has always been on the right side and that was where it was hurting on the left side last night and into the top of my shoulder and into my ear. Could this have anything to do with my lymph nodes? I noticed last week that my glands underneath my chin were a little swollen and sore and it was hurting a little to swallow for a bit too,and I know there are lymph nodes under your armpits and it has been painful under there lately too. Any opinions?
