Q: Pain and bleeding during intercourse
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 12th, 2009
I had a total hystorectomy in 2000.For the past few years I have been experiencing pain and bleeding during and after intercourse. But in the past year the pain has become so severe it literally takes my breath and I cannot breathe and have actually passed out. I can no longer have intercourse and have not for about 8 months but now the pain is 24 hours a day. I have also began having severe pain in my lower back and hips, and very severe headaches and migraines and have lost about 15 lbs in the past few months. I need to know what might cause these symptoms.

Hysterectomy Answer A6039

The symptoms you reported (pain and bleeding during intercourse) might be related to hormonal imbalance. The increasing of the pain, pain in the lower back and hips might be related to inflammation of some of the pelvic structures. Both ways, you might want to visit your gynecologist and have laboratory tests for the possible hormonal imbalance and physical and/or ultrasound pelvic exam for possible pelvic inflammation.
Birth control pills might be suggested for the hormonal imbalance and anti-inflammatory drugs for the inflammation (and perhaps antibiotics for accompanying infection).
