First off I had an epigastric hernia that was repaired conventionally and reccured both times. Then I went to another surgeon and he repaired that and an umbilical and left inguinal hernia with mesh. Lastly I had a right inguinal hernia with mesh repaired. Its been since 1999 since my last abdominal wall hernia repair and I have had pain on and off forever. Now recently Its hurts terribly when I bend over to pick up something, or when I sit at my computer desk for to long, or bend over to type. Oddly enough, it doesnt bother me that much when I exercise. My symptoms are pain above the mesh in my umbilical area, pain at the epigastric area and pain in my lower right side,I also get chest pain and pain in my ribs. My Dr. said I may have costal chondirtis or neuralgia. He sent me for a CT scan of the chest and abdomimal area and everything looked normal. I have also had a stress test done to rule out my heart, and a endoscopy and barium swallow(all normal),ultrasound gallbaldder etc. It seems like the tiniest movement sometimes can set off my pain, and If I press on the area that has mesh in my umbilical/epigastricregion I have pain that can last for hours. Its a nagging pain but sometimes sharp. I also get chest and abdominal pain when I talk and urinate(strange huh). My pain is relieved by laying down and standing up. Now they want me to go to a pain clinic. I honestly do not know what to do. Could I possibly have a hernia recurrence that the CT scan and Dr.'s doesnt see or could the mesh be causing me this much pain. Please help me this is ruining my life. Do I need surgery again? I feel these hard like nodules or things that feel like a stich or scar tissue that I can press on a move in my epigastric region. It causes bad pain.
