I am a 36 year old mum of 3 young kids and am living in hell at the moment. In Jan this year I had an excrutiating pain in my right abdomen radiating into my back. At A&E they gave me a painkiller injection and sent me home with antibiotics for a kidney infection. For 2 months I had recurrent infections which eventually went but the pain kept coming and going. My doctor put it down to a pulled muscle. In march/april I ended up at A&E and that time mentioned that it seemed to be just before my period. He suggested I get checked for endometriosis which my doc doubted. An internal scan showed a mass on my right ovary which they said had some fluid round it which they said was probably due to ovulation/body reaction. A CA125 test came back at 36. That was two months ago. The surgeon scheduled me for surgery for 1st sept as he said he wasnt concerned and also was off on holiday. He believes the mass is consistant with an endometrioma, the other possibility is a torsion which he doubts. I have had the op brought forward a week as I have been having panic attacks and am worried sick I have cancer although my doctor has said this is unlikely. I read that CA125 tests arent always reliable and the surgeon said the scan showed a solid area which he believes is due to the prescence of blood. I am due to go in on Monday for a laparascope. However, the pain in that area hasnt been as bad. The period I had immediately before the scan was the most horrific period I have ever had, I passed large lumps of brown blood which looked like bits of liver. The period after the scan again had some brown blood in it but wasnt so bad. Last month was completely normal and no pain in that side. Could this be something that has passed itself? The surgeon told me he has scheduled the laparascope because of the pain not because he suspects cancer and he stressed several times the risk of bowel perforation. I asked him if I could have a repeat scan before the op but he said not unless I postponed it. I dont know what to do now. If I dont have the op, i'll worry it s cancer for another 2 months and if I go ahead, what if i'm putting myself at risk unnecessarily? Can this kind of thing go away itself? I have had the same pain in the past in 2005 when I had a copper coil fitted. I ended up in hospital with suspected appendicitis and had antibiotics then too for a kidney infect. I then tried a mirena coil and the same thing happened, then nothing from then until jan this year. My mother has had ovarian cysts and two female relatives have polycystic ovaries. What do I do? Just want this to go away.

No one answered but Ive had my laparascope surgery now and just thought i'd update incase anyone else is in the same boat. I went in yesterday and got home at tea time. Surgery went fine, no probs at all and apart from being slightly sore I feel fine. All that stress and all it was was a simple benign cyst and a bowel adhesion!! No endometriosis. As the doctor said, scans arent always reliable and the only way to know for sure is to go in and have a look! A huge weight off.
