My girlfriend recently disclosed to me that she has had a severe ovarian cyst in the past and that all her female family members have this problem. She tells me she is going to have surgery to have the cyst removed in January. We have a bit of a language barrier between us so I don't always entirely understand what she is saying. From what she described, it appears she had a terrible episode in April where she suffered severe bleeding from this problem and was in the hospital for 7 days.

My questions to everyone here is, How does ovarian cysts affect a ladies ability to become pregnant? Does the hospital episode she described to me make sense, is it consistent with an ovarian cyst?
