asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 29th, 2009
My period is 1 day late so far i have started having pains on my left and right side and have experienced a very sharp pain in my abdmonen. My breasts are also sore I have been trying to get preg for a while now and I sometimes have heavy periods lasting 4 days with the first 2 days being the worst. I have taken 1 tests so far and it has a negative results. The pain in my side worries me because i have had these dull pains every since my surgery. I sometimes think they are menstrual related but now i have experienced sharp pains, should i be worried? Also how do i know if I experience a miscarrriage?

Miscarriage and Stillbirth Answer A5601

According to the symptoms you reported, you might be experiencing ovarian cysts that either puts pressure on the surrounding organs or releases itself in the abdominal cavity.

An early miscarriage is very hard to detect without an adequate examination. The embryo is very small and implanted in the uterine wall. When rejected, blood spotting and pain due to contractions can be detected. An ultrasound can confirm if this happened, by detecting the shallow sac in which the embryo was implanted.
