Q: Ovarian Cancer and Diet

My sister has been diagnosed with Stage III adenosqamous ovarian cancer. There are individual rapidly growing tumors on the outside of the colon as well. She has completed one chemo treatment so far. I have two questions. First, do the tumors on the colon affect the functioning of the colon? There is often severe continuing abdominal pain and cramps. She is taking at least 4 Senacot-S tables plus Ducolex suppositories daily for constipation. My second question regards diet. Should she be eating a high fiber diet to bulk up the bowels, or should she be eating fiber free to reduce the volume? Her docs aren't any help, except that in the ER they gave her a cat scan to check for blockage (none) and a powerful laxative. The laxative helped a lot, at least for now. We're still wondering about her daily care and diet. Thanks for any help.

Hi
Thanks. Her symptoms were chronic severe abdominal pain, fatigue, and anemia over a two year period. First she was told she had uterine fibroid tumors. The treatment for that was called embolization. When the pain continued, she was given a colonoscopy. The doc had a hard time pushing the camera up the colon, so he assumed she had a colon spasm which he misdiagnosed as IBS. In fact, there was a tumor on the outside of the colon that was causing a stricture. When the pain continued, they finally decided to do a cat scan which revealed a "large mass" in her pelvis. In other words, the cancer was already Stage III before it was diagnosed. Hope this helps. Please take care.
