My girlfriend is on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. She wanted to skip her period and went directly from the Dark Blue pill straight to the White pill on her next pack. When she told me I thought she should go on with the pack till the next set of placebos. Instead she went from the set of white pill to the placebo. This bothers me because I know it is a hormonal withdrawal induced period. So now she is on her fifth placebo pill with no period. Is this normal? Should she wait before continuing?

As for a little back ground information she was on the depot shot for about a year and a half, but decided to change due to the fact that she spotted for six weeks prior to he next dosage. She then went on OTC, and has been on that for about 2-3 months now.

I thank you all for your time in advance,

~~Jesse

If she went from one pack directly to the other pack, you are correct in thinking that she should finish that pack straight through. Taking the placebo pills after the white week of pills is breaking the hormonal protection at the wrong time.

The two of you should use another back up method of birth control for two week until the hormones are back in her body. After the placebo pills, make sure she starts a new pack starting with the white pills again and doesn't just continue the pack she started before.

If she is not bleeding yet, it may be normal. Sometimes birth control like OTC can lighten your period or make you skip it for a month, especially if she was on depo before which can stop a lot of womens periods while they are on it.

However, make sure to use protection for two weeks other than the pill while her body gets back to normal, and take a pregnancy test two weeks from the last act of unprotected sex just to make sure.

First thank you for your quick response.

My only question is if she does not get her period during this set of placebo pills should she begin the white pills or just wait till her hormones level out and she get her period, then begin her new pack?

She should start the white pills right after she is finished with the placebos. She does not have to wait until she gets her period to start them.
