A girl at my work and I were discussing what kind of birth control we were on because we thought they were the same. She just got switched off of the depo shot to ortho novum. I have been taking ortho tri cyclin lo for almost two years...whats the difference between our birth control pills?

There are a few differences between Ortho-Novum and Ortho-Tri-Cyclen:
1. Ortho Novum contains norethindrone and Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo contains norgestimate.
2. Doses of ethinyl estradiol in Ortho-Novum are higher than in Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo.
3. Ortho-Novum can be found in three forms (three-phasic, biphasic and mono-phasic pills) and orto-Tri-Cyclen is always three-phasic.
