I have been diagnosed with Proctitis in 2008 and have been on medication off and on ever since. However, the medication seems to not work. I have even switched to a different Gastroenterologist and have had two colonoscopys. The symptoms of rectal bleeding and frequent urgencies always keep returning. I have now been bleeding for the past three months. Recently, a friend recommended a Chinese Herbalist who put me on a regimen of Herbal Tea. However, a few days ago, I noticed that my rectal blood has changed color from the always dark red to now an orangish color. My past two menstrual cycles (one before tea and one after tea) were both late about a week and very light in flow. My last menstrual cycle was also orangish in color. At this point, I am not sure why my blood has suddenly changed color, but I am concerned that it could be blood loss due to my rectal bleeding. I have also considered the possibility of the tea having changed the color of my blood - the tea is a mixture of different herbs. Can someone please tell me what they think?

Welcome to e health forum.

The cause of change in color of your stool cannot be determined by your history itself. It is very unlikely that the tea can be the actual cause of it.

It would be best for you to get a stool test done, to know the actual cause.

In addition, you should rule out inflammatory bowel disease as the cause of your proctitis. Specific immunotherapy if initiated at early stages can prevent progression or worsening of the condition.
