Q: optical neuritis

3 weeks after L4L5 Laminectomy, over 1 night I lost my vision in the left eye. Diagnosis: optical neuritis. After an MRI they found only 1 spot demyelination in the brain, and abscess in the spinal. Also on the 2nd day after the surgery for the first three weeks I had bad headaches every morning. My question is it possible that the surgery may have triggered the loss of vision? Thank you.

Have you been seen by a neurologist? If not, make an appointment right away.

Optic neuritis is generally associated with MS and since you also have brain lesion / plaque (spot on your brain).

Surgery may have triggered an MS attack = Optic Neuritis.

Thank you for answering me. I saw two neurologists and an optometrist. One neurologist did not give an answer, and the other said that he was not able to conclusively say that it was MS and that he would send me for another MRI in 6 months.

The brain MRI is as follows:
"Sagittal FLAIR and axial proton density and T2 weighted sequences of the brain were performed. There are vague areas of increased T2 signal intensity in the peri parietal white matter most marked in the right parietal periventicular white matter. The changes are subtle and insufficient for a definitive diagnosis but are somewhat concerning for early demyelination. A single dot of better defined T2 high signal intensity in the left frontal subcortical white matter is noted."

If it is not MS, could it be a reaction from the surgery or the general anesthesia. Thank you.

I've never heard of demyelination happening from a reaction from surgery or general anesthesia.
