Q: Optic neuritis symptoms ?

I have been hospitalized recently with myelitis and vision problems, but the doctors haven't told me much except it may be Devic's disease. I wonder if my eye problem was optic neuritis. If you've had it can you describe what it feels like? For me moving my eyes was very painful, particularly looking up. It felt tight. I kept my eyes closed most of the time but when I opened them it hurt even more. Also they were kind of "shaky" when I looked to the side. My vision was a bit blurry but I could see. I had a terrible headache -- worse than I've ever had. My tongue shook, too, when they asked me to stick it out. Does it sound familiar? Thanks for your feedback.

If this is your initial episode of symptoms is very difficult to definitively separate Devic's disease from optic neuritis due to Multiplex sclerosis.
Painful eye movements is characteristic for optic neuritis in both conditions.
Shaky tongue or tremor, and "shaky look on side" or nystagmus (involuntary eye movements), can be found in Devic's and MS, too.
You need to be performed brain MRI and checked for changes in your cerebrospinal liquor, to get the proper diagnosis.
