Ok, so this weekend I am going to pick up some of the OPK's. Do you ladies have any suggestions on where to get these or what brands to use? I have been looking and have not seen them at WalMart so I am just wondering where any of you got yours from. Thanks a bunch Very Happy

Also have any of you heard of the saliva ovulation monitors? Do they work?

I always bought my opk's off line. (from ebay) that way I could buy in bulk and it is very cheap. But I've used the First Response OPK's this month. They are pretty good. I've also heard good things about the Answer Test Strips (I think they come 20 to a box) and they are cheaper too.

I've never used the saliva scope, but I've heard good things about it. Many women use both the saliva scope and the opk's to help pin point ovulation.

The only bad thing that I have heard about the saliva monitors is that it can take a few months to really get the hang off it.

I guess reading "partial ferning" from "ferning" can get a little shaky when you don't know exactly what you are doing. But it will just take more effort then the opk's. However, you won't have to worry about running out of strips before you catch your surge.

I say they are worth a shot. I was thinking about getting one when I start ovualting.

Keep us posted and let us know if you decide to get one.

I get the cheapies off of ebay and I haven't had a problem with them.

I did buy a saliva moniter, but I never had any luck reading it, so it sits in a drawer...a nice $20 wasted piece of plastic.

Heather I didn't know you had one of those!

Did you try using it at the same time as you opk's and seeing if that would help? I don't know much about them at all. I know that they are looking for...estrogen? Which tends to surge before ovulation. But I don't know what actually happens with the scope itself.

I think that I may want a saliva monitor but worry about being able to read it. I did purchase opk from the store yesterday But will definitely be looking into purchasing them from ebay or something since it cost me $15 for 7 strips. However I think I should be around ovulation (based on past charting and such) so I will start temping and will probably test just to see. Thanks Ladies Smile

Did I?
I took one of the opk test (I know you are supposed to wait until 1st morning but I couldn't) and immediately there was a positive line. I waited the 3 min and it was still there. That means I am in my O cycle right? I am excited b/c this means I could definitely catch it this time... Wish me luck ladies Smile yes

Yesterdays test the result was as dark as the first line. Though it came up immediately. Todays result was lighter than yesterdays. So If I have this correct then I will Ovulate 24-36 hours from yesterday?

Take yesterdays as the positive so you will probably ovulate today. You can ovulate anywhere from 12-36 hours from a positive.

You do not have to use first morning urine, in fact some brands do not recommend it. Most brands recommend that you test between 10am and 2pm and also that you test at the same time every day.

to star and mc4 if you have used those opk for months and had sex on the positive days how come you didn't got preggers? Doesn't that would mean that you may have a problem that requires medical attention?

Because I dont have a crystal ball that tells me exactly when to have sex so that hubbys sperm will meet up with my egg at that exact precise moment and actually fertillize and implant.

The fact of the matter is that there are so many reasons why someone does not get pregnant when they have sex on the day that they have a positive opk. First of all, the positive means that you will ovulate within 12-36 hours. THat alone is a pretty big window of time to plan sex.

There are other factors such as sperm mobility and egg quality, and other factors that would inhibit you from getting pregnant.

The rule of thumb is that if you have been actively trying for over a year then you should talk to your doctor about going to a specialist and looking into fertility treatments. Both Christy (MC4ever) and myself are in that process.

The positive opk is not a magic sign that you will get pregnant.

oh I see..I guess I'm lucky in the sense that my doctor told me I could see him to begin testing if I didn't get preggers within six months. A whole year wondering if there might be a problem that could be addressed must be rough. Then stress won't help to get preggers neither. Anyways good news is that fertility treatments have advanced a lot nowadays so there is much hope for baby dreams!

Thank you ladies. I am hoping that I am lucky this round. dh and I bd on the 2nd (day of positive) on the 3rd (12 hrs after positive) and on the 4th. I know that it doesn't mean that I'll get prego. But am hoping that I have increased my chances.

I was actually fortunate(unfortunate?) enough to only have to wait around 8 months for my referral to a reproductive endocrinologist (RE/Infertility clinic) That is only because I was temping and could prove that something was wrong with me.

However, it isn't that easy. I have a condition called PCOS and I do not ovulate on my own (or at all it would seem) With this condition, opk's are not reliable, I get when I am not ovulating, because my hormon levels are wrong.

It can take a healthy couple 12 months to become pregnant with accurately timed sex (ie, using opk's ect) While opk's are a wonderful tool in helping you time sex well, it doesn't do anything more than that. And there are sssooooo many factors that go into conception it is incredible.
