Q: Onset of oligomenorrhea due to morning after pills
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 27th, 2009
i completed my last period on 2nd Dec 2008. On 1st Dec, i had unsafe sex with my boyfriend (during ovulation). To avoid any kind of risk i took an anti contraceptive pill the next day morning (it is recommended to have it within 72hrs of having sex for the best results). As a result my ovulation started again on 5th Dec and continued till 8th. Since then i am not ovulating at all. My periods are generally regular. For cross checking i used pregnancy testing strips twice, one some 10 days back and the other today but both the results are negative. I am all messed up, please help and guide.

List of other diseases, conditions, or injuries and their treatment: mental stress due to work. No professional treatment taken as yet

According to the data you provided, you might be experiencing oligomenorrhea. Having a morning after pill can sometimes affect the menstrual cycle because of the hormones it contains, but it returns to normal after some time. Having both your menstrual cycle and the two home pregnancy tests negative excludes the possibility of pregnancy. The stress you suffer from can sometimes affect the hormonal cycle and delay the period.
