Q: One sided jaw pain

I wanted to see if anyone experiences a similar symptom:

When I wake up in the morning, I experience jaw pain on my left side. Stretching the joint seems to make it better and it eventually resolves itself by the end of the day (slight stiffness when yawning). This started occuring 3 weeks ago.

I could clench my teeth, but not actively in the day.
I smoked for 2 years, but recently quit (23 years old).

Anyone experience or have been given working treatment options for a similar symptom?

I have noticed that many, many people seem to harbor most of their pain in the left jaw and then it gradually spreads to the right. It is very odd how it seems to start, for a lot of people anyway, on the left side of the face.

left side
I supposedely have a cyst under my molars on the left side, but yea, mine in on the right side. I did have an accident similar to whiplash about 6 years ago , and then after root canal on the right lower jaw 2 years ago it all went down hill. None of the dentist even mentionee TMJ and my orthodontist even went at lenght to fight with my argument that I have TMJ disorder.

Painful lower jaw
I sleep with my teeth unclenched (involuntarily) and when sleeping on my side, the lower jaw hangs to one side instead of being clenched to the upper jaw. This resultantly leads to a painful lower jaw. If consciously the lower jaw is clenched to the upper jaw whilst sleeping, then this does not happen.

TMJ
Hi, My name is Isaac, and I seem to have similar symptoms.
My pain started last night, and it's the left side of my face right under the left ear. Now i don't have severe pain except when I clench my teeth, them if I keep doing it the pain goes away. Has that happen to any of you guys?

My TMJ is on my left side only as well. I'm sort of relieved to read that one-sided pain is not that unusual as I think both the biofeedback therapist and my physical therapist were a bit surprised by how lopsided I am. The muscular tension, trigger points, and pain are only on the left, and quite bad. Sometimes I wonder if it was balanced if it would be easier to handle or treat! Does anyone know why just one side can be affected so much and not both?
Hope you are feeling better,
