about 3 weeks ago i woke up at night with back pain and when i went to my doctor he suspected kidney stones and asked me to carry out a ultra sound. it resulted that my right kidney is hypertrophic due to no left kidney. otherwise all seemed normal. since this came to me as a surprise i decided to look back my file 20 years ago when i have my spleen removed following a fall and from my ct they noted that my left kidneywas afunctional already!! and no one told me or my parents. How do i take care of my single kidney? the pain in the back does not wake me up anymore but there is discomfort and am thinking its muscle pain as i have scoliosis.. what do you think? should i be worried or take more investigations?

I would suggest that you see a kidney specialist ASAP. With only 1 kidney working, it is important that you be followed by a doctor that specializes in kidneys.

You may also want to see a spine surgeon about the scoliosis as well.

Good luck
