I inserted the NuvaRing on my 4th day of my period cycle. I know for it to be fully effective, I have to keep it in for a week. On the sixth day since I inserted the NuvaRing, I had unprotected sex. I didn't let my partner finish inside me, though, he did the pullout method. Would I still have been safe from precum if I was only using the ring for that long? I know it's my fault for not even following simple directions when using this! (I've been on the ring two weeks today).

It is not possible to say for us as every woman is different. 7 days is the longest time that it took for women to get a blood level of the hormones to prevent ovulation.

Best of luck!

I e-mailed my doctor about my situation and she recommended to take Plan B and that I should be on the ring for at least a month before unprotected sex.

From the FDA approved patient leaflet:

Insert NuvaRing on the first day of your cycle, (i.e., the first day of menstrual bleeding). NuvaRing will work immediately, it is not necessary to use an additional contraceptive method. You may also start on Day 2 to 5 of your cycle, but in this case make sure you use an extra method of birth control (barrier method), such as male condoms or spermicide for the first seven days of NuvaRing use in the first cycle.

I would take plan B just in case. I consulted my doctor about the same problem and he said plan B except I was too frugal to take it so there's a good chance I'm pregnant I think.
