Q: Numbness in feet
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 9th, 2009
I want to know what is wrong with my feet? Is it because I don't work out? Do I have diabetes? Do I need new shoes? I am scared of this numbness. It's spread to the last knuckle on my big left toe and I don't know what to do. What do I do? What is this numbness?

Your question involves numbness in your big toe, spreading to the adjacent toes.

It is recommended that you always rule out spinal pathology which can cause numbness or tingling in your lower body/legs. Common issues such as disc herniation may be present, especially if you have lower back pain as well.

Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by diabetes, or something as simple as vitamin B-12 deficiency. Your primary health care doctor should be aware of these areas, and can run appropriate lab testing to find out more.
