Hello all, 29/male here.

For about 7 months now, I've had a pain in my upper right quadrant. It feels like a golfball is shoved up under my right ribcage. Also, the area is completely numb to the touch. I am also having bouts of thin stools, and after I use the restroom, sometimes I still feel like I have to go. The pain in my URQ usually kicks in for roughly 2-4 hours per day and then lets up, usually at night.

There has been bright red blood on the toilet paper a few times over the last 6 months (not an everyday occurence by any means), as well I've been having a slight anal discharge. It's not bloody, more oily and I have to change my underwear several times per day on bad days. I am scared to get intimate with women because of it. The rectal area also sweats and itches like crazy (it drives me absolutely insane!) so I believe this may be hemmorhoids, but I am not sure.

Anyway, the pain in my right side is intense sometimes. So much that I have to lay down. A few months ago I went to the ER. They did a blood test and ultrasound. Everything came back completely fine. They said all my organs looked healthy. There was no follow up. They just said it was IBS, gave me some pills, and sent me home.

Well, now it's a few months after my ER visit and nothing is better. I don't know what to do. I am going through a rough financial time, but I'm scraping enough together to get some basic health insurance. I am becoming scared and I already have anxiety, so I am worrying myself away.

In the meantime I've started taking a fiber supplement, walk 2 miles per day, and have started to eat better (less fatty foods, more vegetables, etc). The pain still persists.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for your replies and God bless.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide detailed or specific diagnoses over the Internet.

Assuming that your ultrasound ruled out gallstones, other possibilities that might cause the symptoms that you describe include abnormal function of your gallbladder and bile duct sphincter (biliary dyskinesia), kidney stones, pancreatic enzyme deficiency, allergies to specific foods, ulcers or the stomach or small intestine, GI tract infections, chronic inflamamtory diseases of the GI tract, diverticulitis, and less likely, a tumor (or tumors) of the GI tract (of course, one can also have more than one health problem at any given time). A "diagnosis of exclusion" of IBS should only be rendered when all of these other possibilities (when appropriate) have been ruled-out.

Hopefully, you can find some way to obtain enough healh insurance coverage to allow you to see a GI doctor for a proper work-up.
