Numbness in the extremities is called Peripheral neuropathy and there are *a lot* of causes, including injury, diabetes, thyroid imbalance, vitamin deficiency, alcoholism, exposure to poisons, autoimmune diseases, etc. You should get a referral to a neurologist. They can do a nerve conduction test to see how well they are conducting. The test can even narrow down the causes.

Once the underlying condition is found and treated, the numbness should get better. If you are having any pain, there are special pain killers for this type of pain. Don't let this go--the sooner they treat the cause, the more likely you won't have permanent nerve damage.

I had similar foot numbness, and I am also not a large person 5'8" maybe 150, and I found that because I have flat feet I needed to see a pediatrist for show inserts. The numbness went away and I can now run, walk etc without feeling like something serious is wrong.

Seeing a doctor is the best way to solve and issue that you clearly do not want to live with. Best of luck.
